San Francisco's Von Iva features vocalist Jillian Iva, bassist Elizabeth Davis, organist/keyboardist Becky Kupersmith, and drummer Kelly Harris. Prior to forming Von Iva, Davis spent seven years recording and touring with the riot grrrl band 7 Year Bitch. She and Harris also performed with the sci-fi rock outfit Clone for a short time, releasing one album, Not Feeling Quite Like Yourself Today?, in 1998. Five years later, Davis was hungry to start another group. Iva was performing with her boyfriend's band in a Bay Area club in early 2003 when Davis spotted the young vocalist. Within weeks, Iva left her boyfriend and old band behind to join Davis, Kupersmith, and Harris. They borrowed Iva's great-grandmother's forename and introduced their soul-influenced disco-rock to San Francisco by the end of the year. Shows with the Raveonettes, I Am Spoonbender, the Hiss, and Metric followed. Von Iva's self-titled debut EP arrived in early spring 2005. In May 2006, the band announced the departure of founding member Elizabeth Davis, who left the group to focus on motherhood. Iva and Harris formed the side project, JK Fab. ~ MacKenzie Wilson.
